African Trypanosomiasis
African trypanosomes are transmitted by tsetse flies, which infest 36 countries in Sub-Saharan Africa. Trypanosomiasis limits agricultural productivity, and causes severe morbidity and death among inhabitants of large areas of Africa that could spur economic development if liberated from this menace. We undertake research to understand tsetse-trypanosome interactions that can be disrupted to prevent transmission.
